Dr. Baxter first tells us about her career as a pediatric emergency medicine physician conducting pain care research and how that lead her to becoming a medical device inventor and entrepreneur. Dr. Baxter describes how she developed the prototype for Buzzy, a device that uses cooling and mechanical stimulation to numb needle pain in children with needle phobia. She tells the story of pitching Buzzy on Shark Tank and the benefits from that experience. Dr. Baxter outlines how she applied for and received multiple research grants to fund her research and device development, including multiple Small Business Innovation Research grants from the NIH. Lastly, Dr. Baxter describes how PainCare Labs evolved to develop VibraCool, a pain care device that uses mechanical stimulation for musculoskeletal pain and post-operative pain after orthopaedic procedures.
